April, the less eventful month

April brought in the springtime temps and the sunny days.  Our days were pretty routine: school, scouts, and speech during the week and soccer and golf on Saturdays.  Oscar's racing season was just starting up while mine was ending.
The weekend of the 9th I ran in the Rock n Roll Raleigh marathon series while Oscar was in Texas competing in the Galveston 70.3 triathlon.  I decided last minute to do the 5k on Saturday morning and it was my first and last 5k.  I just don't like those fast short races.  On Sunday I did the half marathon and what I thought was not my best race ended up being my highest placing to date.  I even nabbed the first place spot in my age group.  So I'm thinking after finishing 2nd last year and 1st this year that I need to retire from this race while I'm still on top.

I'll finish this month off with a little spring photo shoot that I did of my two favorite little people.

March--A month of highs and lows

March started out with a field trip to the Auckland Art Museum with Savannah's class.  Luckily this was a short one so I could chaperone while Walker was at school.  I really don't think this was an age appropriate trip.  I mean, I didn't appreciate art museums until I was an adult so I find it hard to believe that these 5 and 6 year olds got anything out of this visit.  Oh well, it was still fun to spend the morning with Savannah and her classmates.

Oscar's birthday was on Friday the 4th.  We celebrated with cake and presents with the kiddos before he and I got all dressed up to attend the STM Gala at the Carolina Inn.  This is the big yearly fundraiser for Savannah's school and it was our first time attending.
On Thursday, March 10 my sweet Nanny went to Heaven.  She had been sick for a while so we knew it was coming but you're never really prepared for when you get that phone call.  So the kids and I headed to Texas the next day.  Through sad circumstances my whole family was able to get together for the first time since before Walker was born.  It's unfortunate that it takes a funeral to bring us all together but I'm thankful that we had that time together.  I just wish it could happen more often without a funeral, of course.

We finally returned home on Tuesday morning around 3:00am so I let the kids sleep in a little but unfortunately Walker had a long overdue eye exam that we couldn't miss.  Both Savannah and Walker were little little zombies all morning.

Once we got back into the swing of things at home it was back to the routine.  Easter was coming early this year so it was time to decorate.

Poor Walker developed a rash on his face and a pretty bad cold right before Spring Break.  The cold eventually went away but the rash became an infection that lasted for quite a while.  He was put on another antibiotic that quickly started to clear things up.

Savannah came home one day this month and had decided that she wanted to start playing soccer.  So I signed her up for her first season at the YMCA with a few of her friends from school.  Her first official practice isn't until April but she's been kicking around her ball at home quite a bit.  This month she also started her first golf clinic.  She is the only girl with 4 little boys but she absolutely loves it and she's actually the best golfer in the clinic.
Savannah's Spring Break started on Thursday the 24th which began with a trip to the dentist to have her first two teeth pulled.  Her front bottom two teeth had been loose for weeks and the big teeth had started to grow in behind them.  The dentist decided that it was time to help them along and just get those baby teeth out of the way.  She started out so brave but once they called her back and she was told that I couldn't go with her she started to cry which made me start to cry.  About an hour later she was all done with two baby teeth in hand and a big gap in her mouth.  We picked up Walker from school and splurged on a Menchie's yogurt lunch.  Then she went and got her hair cut and blown out.  The tooth fairy visited out house for the first time that night and delivered $6.

And now it's Easter weekend!! We started it off on Friday with the underwater egg hunt at the Wellness Center.  Walker retrieved the most eggs in his age group and got the big prize.
Saturday morning started off with the delivery of Walker's big boy bunk bead.  He was so excited to put his new bedding on it and climb all over it.  Savannah couldn't wait to sleep in the top bunk........until night came and she decided that it was a little scary up there.
And now it was time for the egg filled day!  We started at the church and then headed straight for the country club.

On the 29th the kiddos and I drove to Jacksonville to accompany Rachel to her anatomy ultrasound and find out what our new little cousins are going to be.  The doctor told me the genders but we decided to keep it a secret until Michael and Rach could find out together.  So I bought a onesie for each sex and let Rach open the packages while Michael was watching on FaceTime.  The first one she pulled out was for a BOY.  Poor mama immediately thought that she was going to be forever stuck in a home with all males.  Then she opened the second one and learned that she's having a baby GIRL, too!!  And the relief swept over her!

I finished off the month with a run around the marines air base where Michael and Rach live.  It's always humbling to surround yourself amongst the men and women who are dedicating their lives to serve our country.  I always get a little teary eyed in these moments.

And now it's time to welcome in springtime!
