Little Man's 2nd Month

I know I just blogged about the first month, right?!  How is it we've already passed the second month?!?  The days are going by in a whirlwind and I just can't keep up.  I suppose this is how my life is nowadays.

So little man turned 2 months on February 18th.  Every day his personality is developing more and more.  He is soooo different from his big sister in almost every way.  Walker is such a calm and easy-going baby.  He is happy and content just being held but he'll also sit for quite a while in his nap nanny and just take in his surroundings.  Those surroundings are normally filled with lots of noise and lots of action from Savannah.  As long as she's not in face, he loves to watch her and talk to her.

2 month milestones:
~he smiles often.  Sometimes as nothing in particular but often at me, Daddy, and Sis.
~he is very vocal.  He can carry on a "conversation" all by himself and I swear sometimes it appears that he's fussing at Savannah.
~he is still a little lazy when it comes to tummy time but he is able to slightly lift his head when he wants to.
~he can usually hold his head steady when held upright (his preferred method of being held).
~he can grasp objects but he doesn't hold onto them for long unless it's a finger.
~he can bring both of his hands together and usually they end up in his mouth.
~he can follow objects and especially people as they move in front of him
~he discovered his tongue and he loves to stick it out
~I'm expecting to hear a laugh any day now

Walker's 2 month checkup (2/8/13):
Age: 7 weeks and 4 days
Height: 23.9 inches--95%
Weight: 13 lbs 10.8 oz--90%
Head circumference: 40.7 cm--95%
first morning out as a solo trainer
found his tongue
love this little smile
such a happy baby
Savannah loves him to pieces
my big boy
We sure do love this squishy, chunky little guy!!  I can't believe he'll be 3 months old in just 18 days!

"Snow" in Chapel Hill

I forgot to blog about our first snow of the year. Probably because it was such a tease. The weather men had been warning for days about the winter weather heading our way. The night before schools were already being cancelled. Savannah went to bed so excited for what was to come overnight. She had been talking for weeks about building a snowman. The morning of January 18th came and all we got was a sprinkling of white dust. Savannah couldn't wait to put on her snow clothes and head outside. I didn't have the heart to burst her snow bubble so I got her dressed and out she went. The poor girl was so disappointed when she tried to pick up some snow and there really wasn't anything to grab. Then she tried to lay down and make a snow angel.....no luck again. After about 30 minutes she decided she was too cold and she didn't have anything else to do outside anyway. Besides the dust was already starting to melt.

Now that it's the end of February I'm sure we won't be seeing any more snow til next year.  Oh well....bring on the beaches!!!

Valentine's Day 2013

This year Valentine's Day fell on a Thursday so Savannah celebrated the morning at school with friends and a party.  Walker and I picked her up after lunch and went home to give her a couple of Valentine's Day treats.  She was most excited about the flowers but she also loved the three new books we gave her.  I, too, received a dozen red roses on Wednesday which I totally wasn't expecting.  It's alway nice to open the front door to a delivery man holding a bouquet of flowers.

such a happy Valentine

attempting to get a good pic of them both.....
getting closer......
Finally! although Walker seems soooo over this.
I sure do love my two little Valentines and my one big Valentine!

The Quickest Month

I feel like the first month with my babies is always the quickest month of all. Maybe it's because I'm in a foggy state due to the lack of sleep or maybe it's because these 31 days are the ones filled with the most change. Walker has gone from a skinny little blob to a chunky, observant, and active little guy. He loves to be held constantly but hates when you hold him while sitting. He prefers to be upright moving round. He's always watching his sister and not just because she's usually on top of him. I can't wait to see the bond the two of them will develop. Savannah is so in love with her baby brother. She is always hugging him and giving him kisses. As soon as she gets out of school she runs up to him saying, "oh brother, I missed you soooo much!" It totally melts my heart.

A few things about his first month:
~he's not a great night sleeper. We're up every hour and fifteen minutes....3 hours has been our greatest stretch but that's only happened a few times.
~he's rather particular about where he sleeps at night. He isn't a fan of his bassinet and he wakes up very quickly when I place him in it. Of course he prefers to sleep in our bed close to his all night buffet. Speaking of which.....
~he's the most efficient eater I've ever seen. He nurses for 5-10 minutes and then he's done; unfortunately, that just means he likes to eat more often----every hour to 2 hours.
~so far he hasn't taken a paci or started sucking his thumb and I'm really pushing the lovey on him for a security object. I feel like I waited too long introducing it to Savannah so I'm hoping he'll become attached to it before he becomes too dependent on me.
~Just like his sister, he is plumping up nicely. He reached his birth weight within the first week and then gained another two and a half pounds within two weeks. At his last doctors appointment he was three weeks old and weighed 10 lbs 7 oz (90th %) and was 22 inches long (85th %).
~he loves taking baths. He's even taken a couple bubble baths with me and Savannah. I'm hoping this is one thing he'll continue to like for a long time.... No dirty little boys around here.
~One thing caused from birthing him but not really related to him is that I've been having postpartum night sweats. They are terrible!!! But I guess if this is the worst thing that I have to deal with after childbirth then I'm getting off pretty easy. Now I know what to look forward to with menopause.

He really is just the sweetest little baby. I so adore this newborn time and I hate that it is so short lived. I almost cried when he outgrew his newborn sized clothes and diapers. I actually wish that I could rewind this month and live it all over again.....but wait.....can I take a nice long nap first?!

Walker is 1 Month Old!!
