Savannah's last week of Kindergarten

This school year has definitely been the fastest one yet.  Savannah has had a wonderful experience in kindergarten and a great introduction to St Thomas More school.  Her teacher, Mrs. Coward, and her assistant, Mrs. Hughes, were a perfect fit for her.  I was nervous going into the year knowing that all her friends were placed in the other kindergarten class but I think it turned out for the best so that Savannah could have a chance to make her own mark and create new friendships.  I know she will miss them all over the summer as her excitement for first grade continues to build.

On the last Wednesday the KA Apples had a family field trip to Anderson Park.  They played on the playground equipment, decorated class shirts, played relay games, caught frogs, had a water balloon fight, and enjoyed a yummy pizza lunch and popsickles for a snack.  The weather was just right to spend the morning outside and just as it was getting hot, it was time to go and we left for the pool.

I can't believe I'm going to have a first grader!  I am so proud of the young lady Savannah is becoming.  I oftentimes look at her and stare in amazement that she's growing up.  I do miss the days of being able to hold her and spend all day with her but I am so looking forward to watching her grow and continue to learn new things and become her own little person.  Now let's celebrate summertime!!

Memorial Day Beach Trip

Another year, another Memorial Day at Topsail.  It was sad not having Michael and Rach there with us.  They've been with us every year since we started going to this beach.  Thankfully Grams flew in so she could join us.  We stayed in the same house as last year and we got lucky that it was much less crowded than years past.  The weather forecasters had called for rain storms all weekend so I think that kept a lot of people away.  Fortunately for us the weather was perfect!

It was a wonderfully relaxing weekend.  Other than a little sunburn, we couldn't have asked for a better time.  And now we head back home to finish off Savannah's last week of kindergarten.  Until next year....

May, the busiest month so far

With all the school activities and extra-ciricular things going on, May has become our busiest month of the year.  The school year is finishing up as well as Daisys so there are lots of things to plan and events to attend.  So let's just jump right into it!

I finally used my sewing machine all by myself! Huge accomplishment!!

On Friday the 6th, Walker had surgery at UNC to have his adenoids removed.  His doctor decided that this would be a good procedure to have done to hopefully alleviate a lot of his sinus issues as well as his ear infections.  We checked into the outpatient surgery center around 8:45 and by 9:00 he was back in pre-op.  It didn't take long before the anesthesiologist was ready to take him back.  Because he is so young that allowed me to scrub up and go back to help keep him calm before he went under.  I'm pretty sure that I will be the one who is forever scared from this experience.  Walker was happy-go-lucky all the way until 4 nurses tried to hold him down.  At that point he started screaming and crying and I was just trying my best to hold back my tears, talk calmly to him, and rub his head.  The gas quickly went into effect and he fell asleep.  At that point I left the operating room in tears while my sweet boy lay sleeping on the table.  Seriously, one of the hardest things that I've had to go through.  Thinking about it now still causes me to shed a few tears.  The surgery didn't take long and soon enough the nurses came for me in the waiting room because he was waking up and crying hysterically.  It took a couple of minutes for him to realize that I was holding him and then he fell back to sleep.  Because he had refused to drink any juice or have a Popsicle's we had to stay in post-op longer than expected.  Finally we were allowed to leave and two Popsicles later had him back to normal.  Well.....kinda normal.  He wouldn't eat or drink much over the next several days which caused him to become dehydrated and develop a high fever.  After a whole lot Popsicles he was fully back to normal about 5 days post-op.

Michael and Rach arrived the next morning to spend Mother's Day weekend with us.  They even made it in time for Savannah's soccer game.  It was interesting having Michael on the spectating side after all those years we spent watching his many games.
cheering section
Sunday morning I woke up my very own throne for Mother's Day.  Savannah had been planning special surprises for weeks.  This day really is more about the kiddos than it is about me.  I love seeing all the presents that they have made and of course I let Walker open all my gifts.  For lunch we once again went to the Country Club.

The kindergarten class at STM puts on a musical every year and this years title was Once Upon a Lilly Pad.  Savannah had been practicing her lines and the songs for weeks.  Even Walker knew most of the words for the title song. She was a beautiful little egret and the entire class did an amazing job!

On the 20th Michael and Rach came one last time to visit before they drove off to Colorado.  I knew this day would come eventually but I really wasn't ready for it now.  We have been so very lucky to have had Michael close by for the past 4+ years.  He has been here for most holidays and birthdays and every little event in between.  He's babysat, filled in for school Dad's day, and just been an all-around fun uncle.  And now he's off to start a new position in a new state, and to start his own family with Rach.  I can't even say how much we will miss them both.  How will I manage with only seeing them and there sweet babies once a year and on FaceTime?!??!!!

So happy that Grams is arriving at the end of the month for our annual Memorial Day trip to the beach.  After all the business of this month, I need a break to just sit on the beach and listen to waves.  Plus having Grams around to help with the kiddos is always a plus.
