Christmas to New Years Day

The big day has finally arrived! Christmas morning---the day children wait all year for.  This year did not disappoint.  We went to bed on Christmas Eve not completely sure if we made it on the Nice List so we were soooo excited and soooo surprised when we came down in the morning and saw that Santa had come.

He came!!!
Christmas brunch was back at the Carolina Inn.  After 5 years of going for this meal, this was the first time that I felt like complaining.  The food wasn't great and our table was the worst in the building.  I think I will search for a new place for next year.  After lunch the kids and I went for our annual walk around the neighborhood while Oscar went for a run.

The week between Christmas and New Years was pretty uneventful.  In order to get my workouts in I took the kids to a new drop in childcare center which they absolutely love and are constantly begging to visit.  We also spent one afternoon playing in the pool at the Wellness Center and another afternoon playing at Walker's preschool playground.
Then it was New Year's Eve and time for our annual fancy party.  This year was a struggle for me.  I just felt like staying in my sweats and watching the last of the Hallmark Christmas movies.  But I rallied and managed to put on a dress and light some sparklers.  New Years day had the kiddos in the pajamas all day.  For the first time that I can recall there was no Rose Parade on January 1st due to that being on a Sunday but we still had our New Years stone crab claws along with our southern traditional black-eyed peas and greens.  And I slowly started taking down all the Christmas decorations.  Really it's the saddest day all year for me.
Now it's time to get serious about my marathon training and focus on Boston in April! Happy New Year all!!!

Goodbye 2014

Another New Year's Eve and another "fancy" party at the Alvarez house.  Just like last year we opted to stay home and bring in the new year with the kiddos and all go to bed early.  Around 5:30 we all got dressed up and had an hors d'oeuvre type dinner.  Just a little before 7:00 we lit sparklers and threw little poppers outside.  Then right at 7:00pm we watched the fireworks go off in London and yelled "Happy New Year!".  The kiddos were both in bed at their normal times and Oscar and I were sound asleep by 10:30.  Not a bad way to ring in the new year :)
this year S was't at all afraid of the sparklers
W thought it was a candle and kept wanting to blow it out
Can't wait to see what adventures lie ahead in 2015!  Happy New Year to all!!

Farewell 2013

Ever since Savannah was born Oscar and I have spent New Years Eve at home and more than likely sound asleep at midnight.  This year I decided that just because we stay home with the kids doesn't mean that we still can't celebrate with a fancy party.  And now that Savannah is getting older and she understands things more, the idea of a fancy party was right up her alley.  I say "fancy party" but really is was just the four of us decked out in fancy clothes, aka Savannah's every day attire.
Last week we went to the party store and I let her go to town picking out NYE decorations----streamers, noise makers, hats, plates, table decorations, and even a Times Square backdrop.  As soon as Christmas was over she couldn't wait to decorate and get ready for our party.
At 5:00 on New Year's Eve we were all dressed and ready to party.  We munched on yummy finger foods, lit some sparklers, popped some confetti bombs and waited for the countdown with London.  At 7:00 we rang in the new year watching fireworks shown from various European cities.  It was such a fun night and one of the best parts was that we were all in bed sleeping at midnight.  I'm hoping to continue this new tradition of our New Year's Fancy Party for many years to come.....at least until Savannah decides she's too old and too cool to spend NYE with her parents :)

I can't wait to see what all 2014 has in store for our little family.  Here's hoping for health, happiness, and lots of love.
