The Big Announcement of 2012

Yes, I am finally making it official.  The Alvarez family is expecting a new family member due sometime around December 21, 2012 (yes, that's also my birthday---just another exciting event to overshadow it).  We couldn't be more thrilled!!
April 14--the test confirms my suspicions
12 weeks pregnant
15 weeks
16 weeks (we forgot to take an official photo)
17 weeks
I explained to Savannah that Mommy has a baby in her belly around the 14th week and since then, she is constantly wanting to see the baby.  Oftentimes she'll walk up to me and look up or down my dress/shirt/whatever in order to catch a glimpse.  She has even begun to think that she, too, has a baby in her belly.  Everyday I ask her what kind of baby does Mommy and Savannah have and she'll always respond with "Savannah have girl baby" but my baby's sex changes daily.

The big ultrasound was on July 16 so we can now confirm that Mommy has a baby BOY in her belly!
We are over the moon excited; however, I am a little nervous about the possibility of another wild child.  Let's all pray that the little guy is more mellow than his sister :)  Time to start shopping for blue!!!

Kickoff to Summer '12

Once again we headed down to Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms for our annual Memorial Day weekend get-away.  We arrived early on Friday and immediately jumped in the pool.  Savannah is absolutely fearless when it comes to the water.  She'll strap on her goggles, throw a floatie around her, and jump right in the pool.  I must admit, it is pretty nice to not have her attached to me for the first summer ever.  I may actually get a decent tan this summer :)
We did manage to drag ourselves away for the nice, quiet, warm pool to try out the ocean.  Last year Savannah was less than thrilled about the beach but on this trip she loved it.  She couldn't get enough of the waves crashing into her.  She didn't even mind getting knocked over and splashed in the face.

such a beach babe
We actually did spend some time out of the water.  Savannah happily obliged with the daily short break (thank goodness!).  She also went and got a t-shirt tie-dyed from the jr. staff.  On Saturday afternoon we headed into town to do a little shopping and to eat dinner at High Cotton.  I think if I lived in Charleston I would probably be 200 pounds-----their food is just too good!!
notice the gigantic lollipop....she carried this thing everywhere-----even to bed.

On Sunday we visited the SC Aquarium.  Savannah was so excited about seeing sharks that she sped through most of the other exhibits.  But once we got to the sharks, she was barely interested in them.  I guess she was expecting to see Bruce from Nemo so those little sharks did nothing to spark her interest.

It was another fabulous vacation in one of my favorite cities.  The weather was perfect, the food was delicious, and the scenery was beautiful.  To make it all even better, we basically stayed at the hotel for free.  Yes, I said free.  Gotta love American Express points :)  Looking back now I see that we managed to go through the weekend without taking a single family picture.  We've got to do better than that on the next beach trip.

Spring Update

Yikes!  I just realized that I never did an April Review and here it is almost the end of May.  So I'll just go ahead and review the past two months thus far.....

Savannah and I were able to babysit baby Tripp on two different mornings while his mom, Katie, went to doctors appointments.  For his first visit, he was only 6 weeks old.  Savannah absolutely LOVED having a real baby around.  He slept most of the time but if he was awake, she had to be holding him.  In fact, when he arrives, she positions herself on the sofa with all the pillows arranged around her and she says, "I hold baby!".  On his second visit, Savannah held him for most of the hour he was with us.  Whenever he would squirm she would pat him and say, "shhhhhh, it's okay baby".  Seriously, the cutest thing EVER!
he slept just like this for about 30 minutes
We are sooooooo blessed to have Michael living just a short drive away so he's been coming to visit most weekends.  In fact, he's been with us for the past four weekends in a row.  Savannah loves having him around and she gets so excited every Friday when he's coming.

We had a few unusually warm days this past April so we were able to hook up the sprinkler and get a little sun.  I think I have a picture just like this from last year :)
We even had two 90 degree days so we pulled the whale pool out of the attic.
As always, there is lots of dressing up around here.

Savannah started swimming lessons on May 1st.  She is such a strong little fish!  She totally thinks she can swim by herself.  She has even surprised her instructor with how advanced she is for her age.  She has all the parts down but now she needs to put them all together.  I can tell we're going to have major power struggles this year at the pool.

Rachel came into town to celebrate Michael's birthday a week early.  We had an Avengers theme party (yes, I know, he is 23 going on 10).  They even attended the opening weekend of the movie while in costume (they are a special two-some).

Oscar spent several weekends away for "work" related golf outings.  He has such a rough job.
Mother's Day was on May 13th which is also Michael and Grandad's birthday.  Michael came to spend the weekend with us and to celebrate the two occasions.  I was able to start the morning off with a nice long run outside without having to push the jogger......woohoo!  I'm always amazed at how much faster I can run when I don't have to push 60+ pounds up and down hills.  Then we had a nice brunch at the country club before the boys went and played a short round of golf.

We're headed to Wild Dunes in Charleston this Friday for our annual Memorial Day get-away.  We are all sooooo excited to go to the beach and Savannah can't wait to use her swimming skills.  In fact, she's had her pool bag packed since Monday.  I'll have lots of pictures to post next week and I'll try my best to get them posted as soon as I can.  Until then.......
