Christmas Time 2012

This year our Christmas celebrations began on Friday, December 21st, my birthday. Grandad arrived the day before and Michael arrived that afternoon. Oscar only worked half a day so we all loaded up to head to the mall to see Santa. Savannah had been saying for weeks that she would finally visit Santa once baby brother arrived so I was really hoping for a cute photo of the two of them. Unfortunately that did not happen. Once it was our turn she refused to go sit on his lap so only Walker was in the picture. Oh well....maybe next year.
For dinner that night we all went to the country club for dinner. Then we came home to my favorite cake, mandarin orange cake, for dessert. The next couple of days were spent wrapping gifts, baking, and getting ready for the big day.

On Christmas Eve the day flew by and before we knew it, it was time to head to the family service at church.  Little Walker only made it through a few songs before he had had enough so I spent most of the service outside walking him.  When we finally returned, I found Savannah passed out on top of Grams.  So much for a nice family Christmas Eve service.
We returned home and had a yummy spaghetti dinner before we settled in for the night.  But first, Savannah had to get Santa's plate of cookies and milk prepared and then sprinkle the reindeer food out on the lawn.

Savannah woke up bright and early Christmas morning and she almost made it down the stairs before Oscar and I stopped her.  I would have hated to have missed her expressions when she saw all her Santa gifts.

The morning quickly passed as it does every year.  That afternoon we took a walk around the neighborhood before Grams and I did the finishing touches on dinner.  Because I was caring for a one week old I chose not to prepare a full meal from scratch.  Thank goodness for Honey Baked Ham.  We had a great dinner with enough food left over to feed a small army.

Unfortunately all good things must come to an end.  Michael had to head back to base after dinner and Grandaddy flew back to Texas the next day.  We were so fortunate to be able to spend this special time together to celebrate the birth of Christ, my birthday, and the birth of little Walker.  What a wonderful way to finish off 2012!

Introducing our little man!!!

On Monday, December 17th Grams arrived to begin her 3 week stay with us.  She arrived just in time, too, since I began to feel contractions around 11:00 pm that night.  Around 2:30 am I awoke to rather painful contractions about 5 minutes apart.  With Savannah my water broke during the night so I never had to bother with timing contractions or even dealing with any significant pain in the beginning.  This time everything was totally different.  I guess I should have expected that since this whole pregnancy has been totally different from my first.  Anyways, after about an hour I woke Oscar up.  Of course he jumps up and is wanting to call the doctor immediately but I just wanted to lay in bed a little longer and see if the contractions sped up or increased in pain.  After a soak in the tub and a little more packing we woke up Grams and headed to the hospital.  At this point I was very uncomfortable and the contractions were coming about 3 minutes apart.  I was admitted around 5:00 am and then waited very impatiently for the epidural.  By the time I finally got it, my contractions were about a minute apart.  Yes, Oscar and I were both getting a little nervous that I may not make it in time to get the drugs.  Thankfully I did and then it was smooth sailing.  Within about 30 minutes, our little man, Walker Evan, made his debut at 7:28 am on Tuesday, December 18th.

Oscar left around 10 am to go home and pick up Grams and Savannah.  All three of them stayed with me and Walker until after 6:00 that day and they all came back Wednesday morning to spend the next day with us.  Thankfully we were all able to go home together after only one night in the hospital.

Walker has been such an easy going, laid back baby.  He loves to cuddle and he rarely cries.  We've only had one hiccup along the way and that was a little difficulty in nursing but by the end of the first week he was back up to his birth weight and we've been doing fine since.  And Savannah absolutely adores him.
I really am one lucky lady.  I have two beautiful and healthy children that I could not love more and a supportive husband that has been dealing with a hot mess for the past 10 months.  Here's hoping for easier months ahead.

Christmas Festivities

It's the most wonderful time of the year and I always try to plan several festive activities throughout the season.  This year because of my impending due date I had to try to plan all things in the first half of the month.  Luckily we were able to fit everything in before the arrival of the little man.

First off, Savannah and I attended the Sugar Plum Fairy Tea Party at the Carolina Inn on December 9th.  This was instead of the Teddy Bear Tea Party we attended last year.  Although I was somewhat disappointed in the presentation and execution of this years party, Savannah still appeared to have a fun afternoon.  We enjoyed watching the ballerinas dance while munching on tiny cookies.

The next weekend we assembled our annual gingerbread house.  This year Savannah did all the decorating herself after I assembled the house.

On Sunday, December 16 we had brunch with Santa at the the country club.  Savannah was so excited leading up to this event---partly because Santa was going to be there but mostly because we were going to Keith's house.  The excitement quickly changed to fear as soon as the jolly old man entered the dining room.

After brunch we went for a carriage ride through campus.  It's always nice to slow down and enjoy the beauty of this town we live in.
Grams arrives tomorrow so we're all set for baby brother to arrive.  Any day now......
