It all began last Saturday afternoon after the preschool fundraiser. Savannah started to get snotty and a little droopy. By Monday the coughing fits began so she missed ballet school. Tuesday was so bad that she skipped school and had a 103 degree temperature. And now little man had started to sound congested. Wednesday we headed to the doctor. We found out that they both have RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) and Savannah has a double ear infection. Unfortunately Savannah has to ride out the RSV with no treatment or medicine but she is on an antibiotic for her ears. Little guy is on breathing treatments every 4 hours for 5 days. He has been doing unbelievably well considering that he has to wear a big mask over his nose and mouth while air blows out on his face. It's as if he knows that he will breath easier afterwards.
Thankfully the worst only lasts about 5 days which means Savannah started improving Friday and today she seems almost back to normal except for a runny nose. Walker had his worst day yesterday and he is slowly improving. Amazingly I have managed to not get sick at all. I don't know how I would have survived these past several days if I were sick, too. The sleep deprivation is bad enough.
I absolutely hate watching my babies suffer. I really think there is nothing worse than hearing a 2 month old having trouble breathing. Or maybe listening to my 3 year old cough uncontrollably until she throws up. They are both so little that I can't give them anything to alleviate their discomfort. This whole week has just really sucked!!!!
A couple of things I have learned through all this: Savannah is capable of visiting the doctor without having a tantrum, Walker is an easier baby than I ever perviously thought, and I can function on less sleep than should be humanly possible. Thankfully the end is in sight and I can see light at the end of the tunnel.
